21 Graduate from United Way’s Hispanic Leadership Development Program
(Philadelphia, PA) United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania welcomed their
Hispanic Leadership Development Program’s class of 2006 in a small ceremony
held at United Way headquarters in center city on Wednesday, June 14th. The
twenty-one member class is among approximately 300 individuals to have completed
the program since its inception in 1983. Graduates of the HLDP receive a Certificate
in Nonprofit Management from the Nonprofit Center.
United Way created the Hispanic Leadership Development Program in response to the rising Latino/Hispanic population in Southeastern Pennsylvania and the need to train individuals to fulfill leadership positions in boardrooms and policy-making organizations to better represent the community.
In classes that meet monthly over a 10 month period, participants in HLDP are able to explore and understand the dynamics of diversity and its impact on the individual, the organization, and the community at large. HLDP graduates hail from local Latino/Hispanic community organizations, city and state agencies, and some of their own businesses.
“It’s important that those of us who have benefited from this leadership program help ensure that it is available to many others,” said Alba Martinez, President and CEO of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and graduate of United Way’s HLDP.
