What kinds of students participate?
Shadowing Day participants are 9th and 10th graders at Philadelphia’s high schools who are:
- Recommended by school coordinators to participate, and
- Interested in career exploration and opportunities.
What does my business or organization need to do as a host for Shadowing Day?
- Identify staff to attend an orientation session;
- Recruit at least five employees to serve as hosts for the day; and
- Prepare information about the workplace to share with students.
Why should my business get involved?
- To expose students to career possibilities;
- To raise public awareness of your business;
- To become a positive role model; and
- To invest in regional growth by developing our future workforce.
Who provides supports for my business and Shadowing Day students?
- The Philadelphia Youth Network provides pre-program training for all participating youth;
- School District staff recruit youth and provide ongoing support; and
- The United Way provides orientation and training for all worksite coordinators and hosts.
When is Shadowing Day?
- Shadowing Day 2010 Dates:
- Career Exposure Day – Tuesday, February 2nd
A general exposure day for 9th grade students - Healthcare Industry
Day – Wednesday, February 17th
An industry specific day for 10th graders currently pursuing a Healthcare academic track - Hospitality Industry
Day – Wednesday, March 3rd
An industry specific day for 10th graders currently pursuing a Hospitality academic track
