Earned Income Tax Credit -
Volunteers Make a Difference
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is America’s largest anti-poverty program. A refundable tax credit for low to moderate-income working individuals, the EITC can increase a family’s annual income by over $5,000. The EITC reduces the tax burden on workers, supplements their wages, and helps families pay bills or save for the future.
How to Volunteer this Tax Season
Every year millions of dollars in tax refunds go unclaimed in our region.
In Philadelphia, an estimated 39,000 eligible households do not file EITC claims,
leaving approximately $66.3 million in unclaimed credits. As a partner in increasing
the financial stability of families, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania
helps bring many of those millions back to our region’s low-income working
families through our support of local EITC initiatives.
