Early Education - Success By 6
Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. It’s essential to getting and keeping a job with a livable wage and health benefits. And it’s fundamental to a community’s economic prosperity: a well-educated workforce attracts world-class jobs. United Way's work is focused on children who start kindergarten ready to learn, and who stay on track as they grow.
What Matters: Success By 6
- Research shows that high quality early learning experiences can counteract the effect of risk factors like poverty on children’s school performance and produce benefits that last into adulthood. Investments in quality early childhood development have been found to generate returns as high as $17 for every dollar spent.
- Quality is critical, but only 22 percent of children in the region who are in care at early learning center, are attending centers known to be of good or high quality.
UNITED WAY IN ACTION
United Way and its partners are working to:
- Improve the school readiness of 20,000 more children by bringing another 320 early learning centers up to the highest levels of quality.
- Develop creative ways of engaging parents as partners in early learning.
- Team with the business community to educate employees about how and why to find quality care that fosters early learning.
- Advocate for public investment in expanding early learning opportunities.
