Cheltenham Township’s ECC
Steps It Up!

This year's Cheltenham Township's Employee Campaign Chair was the main reason why their campaign increased a full 17.7% to $3,395! ECC Charlyn Battle, who is also the township's Human Resources Coordinator under township manager David Kraynik, organized a health fair, inviting several non-profit organizations. Then she took her cue from the other vendors and decided to set up a station representing United Way. She displayed the UWSEPA banner, offered free pins and for each person who signed up to donate through payroll deduction or who wrote a check, she entered their name into a raffle for two lumbar heat massagers. "By reaching out to the employees instead of them just stopping by my office, made all the difference," she said, adding, "I'm already thinking about next year's campaign!"

Devereux
Surpasses Fundraising Goal!

Once again showing their big hearts, Devereux, surpassed its fundraising goal for the 2008 United Way Campaign. Despite the challenging economic climate, Devereaux employees raised $121,443 -- an increase of $5,741 or 5% over 2007.

Devereux's Campaign Committee, led by Employee Campaign Chair Sandy Wilhelm, Executive Assistant-Development, came up with great prize ideas to promote the United Way Campaign. With drawings each week of the three-week campaign, all donors who submitted their forms were eligible to win a digital camera, an I-pod, or a GPS system. New donors were also entered into a drawing for $50 WAWA gift cards.

Devereux President and CEO Robert Q. Kreider also hosted a Leadership Campaign kick-off with a barbeque on a beautiful September afternoon. Other center kickoffs included an ice cream party, a dessert social with Devereux mascots and an afternoon of snacks to kick off the campaign at Devereux's administrative office in King of Prussia. The Devereux committee knows that good food is a great draw and a fun reward! All-in-all, this was a fine example of a tremendous team effort!

Excelon-Limerick
Generates A Huge Increase!

Participation in the United Way Campaign at Exelon-Limerick Generating Station increased 140% over last year which generated a 215.5%, or $51,916 increase in their campaign total of $75,861! Employee Campaign Chair Kim Batdorf, Administrative Technical Clerk in the Training Department, arranged a series of group meetings to kick off the campaign. The meetings, offered by the company for the first time, included an opportunity for employees to hear from both United Way and its partner agency representatives. In addition, Ms. Batdorf placed United Way posters throughout the company's offices, and displayed other campaign-related materials including home-made patriotic United Way posters. Bake sales, free hot dogs and other refreshments helped to attract interest and heighten awareness of the campaign leading to a record level of participation. Leadership Campaign Chair Christopher Gerdes organized a special leadership event and Leadership giving ($1,000 or more) exceeded the company's entire 2007 campaign total. In addition, Site Vice President Christopher Murdick made a point of outwardly supporting the campaign.

A Lesson on Success
from Owen J. Roberts School District!

Owen J. Roberts School District employees outpaced themselves this year by raising $10,762 through their 2008 United Way Campaign. That is a phenomenal 107.4% or $5,572 increase! The Campaign, organized by Employee Campaign Chair Antonia Cramp, was given a boost by a last minute request for support from Superintendent Dr. Myra Forrest, which turned out to be the key to success. Over $7,200 of the total are new or increased gifts, which will be matched dollar for dollar by a Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation matching grant.

L-3’s Full-Fledged Success Story!

For the first time, L-3 ran a full-fledged campaign with tremendous incentives and raised $15,000, an increase of $11,713 or 456%! In addition to inviting speakers from United Way and a United Way partner agency to share their messages, the very enthusiastic campaign coordinator, Larry Wasnock, Vice President of Administration and Ethics Officer, continuously followed up with the employees throughout the campaign. He also started out with a plan to aggressively pursue greater participation, ending the campaign with 28% participation vs. 8% the prior year. The campaign closed with a catered BBQ lunch for those who participated, which included ribs and cheese steaks. Donors were also offered several raffles with prizes such as gift certificates, a 32-inch LCD flat screen TV, and the grand prize of one week of paid vacation! Reflective of the generosity of the L-3 employees, some of the winners gave their prizes to someone who they felt would get more use from them. All in all, a tremendous effort from everyone involved, and under the leadership of President and General Manager Jerome Ozovek, a foundation has been set at L-3 that should lead to a strong partnership with United Way into the future.
