Double Digits Across the Board at PJM Interconnection!

This year, PJM Interconnection decided to make a few changes to their United Way campaign, and the results were exceptional with double digit increases across the board! The company, led by President Terry Boston and Executive Vice President Karl Pfirrmann, experienced a phenomenal 17.8% increase, raising $195,105 or $29,440 over their 2007 campaign results! Employee Campaign Chair Patty Cory began planning for the campaign earlier than usual and in addition, the company held its first group meetings where employees learned first-hand how their generous donations are advancing the common good throughout their community. The message resonated with them, as their contributions to UWSEPA's Community Impact Fund increased by 27.7%. Excellent management support was also key to the campaign's success, and the number of donors jumped from 183 to 234 - a 28% increase!

Henkels & McCoy, Inc.'s Picnic-Perfect Kick Off!

Hotdogs and hamburgers cooked out under the blue skies of a bright sunny summer day provided the perfect kick off for the Henkels & McCoy 2008 United Way Campaign. Under the direction of Employee Campaign Chair Sherry Scandone, Disbursements Manager for the company, their campaign really cooked by raising $51,091, an 18.2% increase! It is the third year of a double digit growth for the company, and the third year as a Pacesetter, running early to set the tone for the rest of the campaign. Henkels & McCoy, under the leadership of president and CEO Rod Henkels, conducts a national campaign, raising more than $130,000 for nearly 40 United Ways across the country.

ACE Group Employees:
Volunteerism and United Way Campaign Supporters!

Remember the excitement of starting the school year with a new book bag, sharpened pencils and colorful notebooks? For children from low-income families, the new school year may not bring the same sense of enthusiasm because they can't afford to buy school supplies which make them less prepared to learn from day one.

As part of United Way's "Stuff the Bus" campaign, the ACE Group collected new school supplies for children in grades K-12. The supplies were distributed to the 33 children in Philadelphia's Mill Creek neighborhood who participate in Police Athletic League (PAL) programs and live in a nearby shelter. This initiative drew on ACE's longstanding relationships with United Way and PAL to benefit local children who are most in need.

The annual United Way campaign is one of ACE's largest employee fundraising activities and receives significant funding from the ACE INA Foundation. Through PAL's "Adopt-a-Center" program, the ACE INA Foundation provides financial support to the PAL Centers in Philadelphia. ACE employees also donate their time and money to host a holiday party for children at these PAL centers.

Stuff the Bus: In addition to running a United way Campaign, ACE Group employees collected back-to-school supplies for many children in the Mill Creek area

Breakfast with an Attitude at Turner
Investment!

Passion and knowledge along with a welcoming atmosphere (and plenty of food!) turned Turner Investment's 2008 United Way Campaign into a roaring success. Turner achieved 100% participation for its first time ever, along with a 28.1% increase for a campaign total of $169,432! Employee Campaign Chairs Jason A. Bobber, Trading Administrator-Principal and Kathleen Furgiuele, Senior Equity Trader, decided to challenge their fellow workers through a highly educational and complete Pacesetter Campaign. There were two informational group meetings with two guest speakers from area non-profit agencies and a passionate introduction on the importance of giving from CEO Bob Turner. Each meeting included a hearty breakfast and a friendly greeting. The upbeat energy of the campaign chairs and the employees' eagerness to help the community was the driving force behind this outstanding campaign!

Turner Investment CEO Bob Turner spoke passionately on the importance of giving at the company's two United Way 2008 Campaign kick off events.

Yellow Books Keeps on Giving!

Yellow Book USA, in only its second United Way campaign, proved once again that their employees are supportive, caring and generous. In addition to emergency fund raising for disaster relief for their sister organization in Cedar Rapids, MI, Yellow Book USA, under the national leadership of President Joe Walsh, still managed to surpass its goal of $120,000. A Campaign Committee of 50, led by Employee Campaign Chairs John Wholey, V.P. Publishing, and Maria Mitchell, Asst. V.P. of Publishing, organized the kick off. Two groups of 500 employees each heard speakers from United Way and a non-profit partner agency talk about the issues facing their community and how their dollars are being used to tackle these key issues. Leadership Giving ($1,000 or more) remained a critical part of the campaign. The company has also embraced volunteerism among its employees, and for the first time a contingent of 50 volunteered to help out at the 2008 Days of Caring organized by United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Yellowbook joined the LIVE UNITED movement as they kicked-off their 2008 United Way campaign in the parking lot of their new building in King of Prussia.

Despite the current economic times, STV, Inc. recently concluded their most successful United Way campaign ever, raising 19.7% more than its last campaign, for a total of $9,185! The company, led by Regional Manager James Vilbert, offered exciting and fun activities ranging from a miniature golf tournament to Jeans-and-a-Jersey Day to soft pretzel sales in order to create and maintain awareness of the 2008 United Way Campaign. Employee Campaign Chair Carol Leh, supported by an active campaign Committee, also organized the company's first Leadership meeting. Of the total amount raised, $2,314 qualifies for Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation's matching grant for new or increased gifts.

A Small Organization Can Be a Huge Supporter!

The Society of Financial Service Professionals, a small yet consistent contributor to the United Way with about 40 employees, is in the process of running another strong campaign. Raising about $13,000 every year, and with an average employee gift of $400, it stands out as one of the United Way's high-performance smaller campaigns. In addition to an impressive average gift, the Society enjoys an 85.5% participation rate and promotes "guideline giving" as a way to increase participation. A "guideline giver" is an employee who contributes 1 hour's pay per month. As an incentive, if an employee becomes a "guideline giver" they receive a free vacation day. That's a nice reward for giving.

A special appreciation breakfast and a free lottery ticket are provided to each person who participates in the campaign and further incentive comes through the generosity of the Marriott, which donates a free weekend awarded through a raffle. The Society of Financial Service Professionals is a national network of credentialed professionals working in diverse financial disciplines.
