Best Campaign Practices Translate Into a Whopping Increase at Amerisource Bergen!

It all began when AmerisourceBergen EVP and CFO Mike DiCandilo selected a dynamic campaign team to head the company’s 2008 United Way Campaign. Lead by Employee Campaign Chair Jonathan Sturz, Senior Counsel, employee giving increased from $31,000 to $104,000 – a huge 234% increase! The team put together a campaign plan based on best practice campaign techniques which helped educate and energize the AmerisourceBergen associates. The company also held a Leadership Luncheon, which resulted in 32 leadership donors of $1000 or more. Additionally, four executives joined the Tocqueville Society by pledging $10,000 or more to the campaign. Mr. DiCandilo also joined the UWSEPA Board of Directors in September 2008.

In addition, CEO R. David Yost pledged a $25,000 corporate contribution and there was a 50% match of employee giving pledged by the company’s Charitable Contributions in support of United Way’s Healthy Aging Initiative. AmerisourceBergen’s charitable contributions program focuses on improving the mental, social and physical well-being of the elderly populations in the communities where they operate. The combined total of the employee contributions, AmerisourceBergen’s matching contribution and the additional corporate gift was more than $180,000.

AmerisourceBergen is a comprehensive pharmaceutical services provider that employs about 400 people at their corporate headquarters in Chesterbrook.

Holy Redeemer Health System was way ahead of itself in its 2008 United Way Campaign - creating a pleasant surprise for all. Raising a phenomenal 2,352% more this campaign put the organization at $24,922. CEO Michael B. Laign led the charge by challenging Pam Snashall, Vice President, Development, and her Campaign committee supported by Joe Cassidy, Vice President, Human Resources, and Employee Campaign Chair John Majane, Director of Development, Home Care and Hospice to put together a strong campaign for 2008. The Committee established participation and dollar goals, assigned captains in each of its facilities, organized a reception for everyone who worked on the campaign, provided weekly incentives to encourage interest and giving and specifically encouraged Leadership level donations of $1,000 or more.

Liberty Property Trust Sports A Winning Team!

When faced with a campaign challenge, first-time Employee Campaign Chairs Jenny Green and Morgan Dorfman of Liberty Property Trust not only met it – they beat it! The two ECCs organized a local campaign that maintained a strong record of giving at the company, plus they were handed the additional challenge of running a national campaign at its 20 sites around the country. Altogether, the Campaign grew and sites that had never participated joined in the 2008 Campaign effort. This ended up being a huge success story, with results reflecting a 13.2% or $11,842 increase for 2008!

Using sports as the theme, they kicked-off at their headquarters with a great tailgate party featuring all the fixings you would expect to find at a major sporting event. The Campaign’s next pitch was a conference call led by CEO, Bill Hankowsky, who encouraged all sites to give to United Way and all employees to be thankful for the opportunity to give, especially during such challenging economic times. The employees at the company’s headquarters enjoyed learning more about United Way’s Community Impact Agenda plan from United Way Campaign Manager Shannon Crawford and hearing a first hand example from an agency representative from Pathways PA of how Community Impact is truly making an impact in the community.

The fan favorite special event was their Jeans & Jersey Day (see photo below) when employees paid a small fee to wear blue jeans and the jersey of their favorite sports team! The ECC’s definitely plan to have this “fun-raiser” again next year!

Liberty Property Trust Sports A Winning Team!
Employees at the Maryland location of Liberty Property Trust donated $5 to participate in the company’s national United Way Jeans and Jersey’s Day by wearing their favorite team jersey and jeans to work for the day.
