The Pacesetter Campaign sets the standard for the rest of the campaign to follow, and this year they set a very high standard indeed! Under the guidance of division co-Chairs Tim Buckley of Vanguard and Joe Banner of The Philadelphia Eagles, their accomplishments have been fantastic. A total, of $4,110,290 so far has been raised, a huge increase over last year! And as the Pacesetter campaign winds down, still more funds are being added to the total. Leading the super strong showings by Fameco Real Estate, Henkels and McCoy, IKON Office Solutions (See photo below), Liberty Property Trust, Yellow Book USA (see related story below) and Women Against Abuse, is Vanguard with an incredible increase of $336,412 over its 2006 campaign. [back to top] ECCs Transformed Into Champions for Impact...and Fun!In just a few months, 1,497 Employee Campaign Chairs and Committee members, representing more than 150 organizations, were transformed into United Way Champions on campaign planning and execution! Gathering in six locations, including IKON Office Solutions, Mellon Bank Center, Lincoln Financial Filed, Citizens Bank Plymouth Meeting, Citizens Bank Park and Montgomery Community College-Pottstown, the ECC's volunteered their time to spend a half day learning best practices for campaign success, including how to add a dash of excitement to ensure a great experience for all! These Champions learned about United Way's Community Impact Fund and heard first-hand from a non-profit agency about how their work directly impacts not only what that agency can do for their community, but also how United Way helps facilitate that work. They reviewed the best way to run a campaign and learned from leading companies what steps to take to ensure a successful campaign. As one participant stated, "Each year I find the session very useful. I picked up ideas today that I will incorporate in our campaign - and, we'll have fun doing it." That's what it's all about - planning a fun, exciting and successful campaign! Whether you are an experienced ECC or a newly assigned ECC, please be sure to join United Way during its ECC Orientations in 2008. Send us your campaign photos and we'll use them in our Good News newsletter, on our website and any other embarrassing place we can find. We want you in our next edition! [back to top] Yellow Book USA's Intriguing Campaign!A Yellow Book Production of Epic Proportions Coming to the King of Prussia Theater" was just one of the many taglines used to create intrigue around Yellow Book's first-time campaign this year, which raised an astounding $114,433! The company's 800 employees, based in King of Prussia, were split into two groups and carpooled to the IMAX Theater in King of Prussia on August 21 to hear United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania CEO Alba Martinez and speakers from a UWSEPA partner agency. The enthusiasm generated translated into the goal of $40,000 being surpassed in just the first three days of the campaign! Ken Silvious of United Way credits the overwhelming success of the campaign to its 70% participation rate under the strong leadership of Employee Campaign Chairs John Wholey, Vice President of Publishing, and Maria Mitchell, AVP Advertising, PR, and Branding. Yellow Book USA, under CEO Joe Walsh, is the number one independent publisher of print and online yellow page directories nationwide. Thank You Yellow Book! [back to top] Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow! We had a great evening on October 18, as we brought our inaugural group of Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow together for the first time. The United Way Women's Initiative funds this exciting program, which develops self esteem and leadership skills in girls from 6th to 8th grade over the period of a year. The group, who came for dinner with their parents and siblings, are diverse and vibrant, some outgoing and some shy ... but ALL impressionable and definitely future leaders! We'll get to see their progress on March 13, at the Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow Gala Dinner. Contact Mary Ann Milner for details at 215-665-2534.

In a melding of youth, music and generosity, students at Ursinus will rock their campus with a "Concert for a Cause," benefiting United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Local and student musicians will compete in a "battle of the bands contest" featuring Alternative Rock, where they will try to win over the crowd (and get the $250 prize!) by generating the most (and loudest!) cheers. Earnings from tickets sales and a silent auction will benefit the United Way campaign.
Their goal? $3,000!!
The event is a student project at Ursinus University in Collegeville. Student groups are charged with creating business plans and then producing a successful fundraiser to benefit a charity of their choice. Ursinus Juniors Gregory Windrem, William Stolle, and Jason Orlando, along with Senior Dean Kelly, and Sophomore Zachary Ziegler, creators of the "Concert for a Cause," have selected the United Way as their beneficiary.
