This is exciting, can't-be-missed news, and we're thrilled to be able to tell you...but not just yet. (Hint - we set ourselves a great challenge for the 2007 United Way Campaign!) On Friday May 2, come join us at our Champions for Impact Breakfast and be among the first to hear our Good News announcement. At Champions for Impact, United Way will have the privilege of introducing the winners of this year's Champions for Impact Awards. The recipients are just a few of the stand-out organizations and individuals who helped to turn the 2007 Campaign into another outstanding effort. Champions for Impact is not just about recognizing exceptional accomplishments on behalf of the community, but also to invite others who successfully met the challenge to join us in celebration of a fantastic year! E=MC2 OR Einstein Equals Medicine and Community -- SquaredAlbert Einstein Healthcare Network in 2007 blew the doors off its previous United Way Campaign record, raising $67,000. This reflects an increase of $8,086 or 13.7% more than last year. "We had a great year!" Patrice Haverstick, Director of Human Resources and Employee Campaign Chair exclaimed. Special thanks go to Barry R. Freedman, Chief Executive Officer, for his dynamic leadership at both Albert Einstein Healthcare Network and in our community. Albert Einstein Healthcare Network includes Albert Einstein Medical Center, Belmont Behavioral Health, Einstein Center One, Einstein at Elkins Park, Germantown Community Health Center, Moss Rehab and Willowcrest, which together help to improve the lives of individuals and families in our region. [back to top] UPS Employees - What Brown Does for United Way!UPS, which manages to regularly handle 2 million air packages per day, once again increased its already generous United Way Campaign. UPS employees, led by Vice President Rosemary Egan and Employee Campaign Chairs Marvin Stewart, Employee Relations Manager, and Chris O'Connell, District Automotive Manager, raised $1,156,077 regionally in Metro Philadelphia District, an increase of $16,592, or 101.5% of their goal for 2007.In another major achievement, UPS garnered over 70% participation from their employees, even though more than 50% are part-time. UPS remains the #1 contributor to United Way nationally, giving an astounding $60 million dollars, with over $50 million coming directly from employees. Employees additionally found time to volunteer over 950,000 hours nationally! Much of their success is due to their strong outreach and promotion during the campaign. The campaigners distribute daily reports by division indicating how close each coordinator is to reaching their goal. Additionally, there is competition to be the first to achieve 100% of goal, and formal recognition for those who do. And finally, they also incorporate various special events including bowling and other fun fundraisers and activities. [back to top] Wachovia - A Community PartnerWachovia, one of the major contributors to the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania Campaign having raised nearly $700,000 in 2007, is also a partner in other projects, ensuring a year-round relationship between UWSEPA and the financial institution as they work together to support the community.Wachovia and United Way partnership in a number of ways:
The campaign began with a leadership meeting lead by CEO Hugh Long and campaign co-chairs Michele Lawrence and Bill Loftus, with our Board Chairman Carl Bucholz as the featured speaker. Wachovia is also a United Way of America National Corporate Leadership (NCL) company, running a nationwide campaign so as to give as many of its locations across the country as possible the chance to participate in the campaign. Wachovia is a leader in our community in so many ways, and we appreciate the opportunity to partner with them. [back to top] Fox Rothschild, LLP - In the Lead!Fox Rothschild, LLP experienced a 111% increase in total dollars this year, growing their campaign from $15,711 in 2006 to $33,226 in 2007! What was the secret? Leadership giving! Fox Rothschild added five new leadership donors who gave at least $1,000 each, and who raised leadership giving 173%, from $9,540 to $26,056! In addition, participation climbed 42% over the previous year. Led by Managing Partner Scott Vernick and Employee Campaign Chair Wynetta Capitanio, Fox Rothschild also increased its donations to UWSEPA's Community Impact Fund by 180%, which just goes to show what can happen when you focus on helping the community! Founded in Philadelphia in 1907, the company's Philadelphia office continues as a cornerstone of the firm's strength. With over 100 lawyers, Fox Rothschild serves business and civic leaders across the region. [back to top] Blank Rome LLP Does It AgainBlank Rome LLP did it again this year, posting an increase in total dollars of $11,717, up 11% over the previous year to a new high of $114,326 in employee giving for its annual United Way Campaign! Blank Rome also added five new leadership donors, who each gave $1,000 or more!Led by Managing Partner Carl Bucholz, Chief Administrative Officer (and UWSEPA Board Chair), Patrick Cavanaugh, John Sperger and Anshoo Patel, the firm's total campaign for 2007 reached $165,584. Blank Rome plans unique events to engage employees and creates entertaining electronic communications to keep the workforce informed and enthused throughout the course of the campaign. Blank Rome was founded more than sixty years ago and the Philadelphia office serves as headquarters for their numerous locations. [back to top] GlaxoSmithKline's Significant RoleThe employees of GlaxoSmithKline raised $211,000 in the fall campaign and with a dollar-for-dollar matching gift; the company's contributions grew to more than $422,000! The increase in net new dollars was $36,000. GlaxoSmithKline's total national giving, including from employees at the company's facilities in Raleigh, exceeded $1,135,466 before the matching funds. Jeanne Yohn and Cathy Trzaskawka led the campaign in both Philadelphia and Raleigh. Executive support was provided by 2007 Campaign Cabinet Leader Shirley Geerling.
